Kopila Valley Sewa Samaj is a non-profitable NGO registered in Surkhet, Nepal to provide support for children and families in our community. Our programs include a residential children’s home, women’s empowerment center, sustainability, school, health and wellness, and family development. We provide our students a free education, educational materials, health treatment and medicine, counseling, and a place to live. With our innovative future program, we strive to provide our children with career guidance, and scholarships for further studies. We do this with our funding partner BlinkNow Foundation and in close ties with the local government and communities. 

The BlinkNow Foundation is a 501(c)(3) based in New Jersey which, through its country office in Nepal, oversees these programs in rural Nepal. Every day we strive to create a sustainable organization working to educate all of Kopila’s children until they are ready to enter the world as happy, skilled, confident, self-sufficient adults. We believe we can serve as a model for quality education in Nepal. We will strive to provide our children with scholarships (should they choose to pursue higher education), the skills required to enter the world as global citizens, and ambassadors for change.

The Associate Health & Wellness Manager is a key position that oversees the Kopila Valley Health & Wellness program which includes Family Development Program, Big Sisters’ Home, Health Clinic, and other functions under these programs.  This role will provide necessary guidance and support to the program team so that the program activities are carried out timely and effective.  The main focus of this role is to ensure that the health and wellness-related goals are met. The core responsibilities of the Associate Health & Wellness Manager will be to oversee the program, operational, and healthcare management keeping in close communication with the line manager and BlinkNow foundation.

Must Haves

  • Education: Master’s degree in public health, science, or any relevant discipline
  • Experience: At least 5+ years of proven experience in supervisory role. 
  • Language: A good communicator, and fluent in English and Nepali
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to manage, mentor and lead a team; passionate about and cares for children and vulnerable population; initiator, and competent in managing operations and logistics in the organization. Works collaboratively and independently with the least supervision required.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

  • Healthcare Management:  As the healthcare focal person for the organization, ensure access the emergency and primary care is available for the entire team on campus, referrals are made for complicated cases, and healthcare emergencies are responded to effectively.
  • Program Management: Manage the programs under the Health & Wellness program with utmost efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Operational Management: Ensure robust operational management of the team and functions under the Health and Wellness Program.

Detailed Responsibilities

The Associate Health & Wellness Manager will be mainly responsible for overseeing the following areas of responsibility:

Healthcare Management: As the healthcare focal person for the organization, ensure access to the emergency and primary care is available for the entire team on campus, referrals are made for the complicated cases, and healthcare emergencies are responded to effectively. 

  • Ensure primary care is available to all the children and adults through the clinic on campus - ensure the clinic is resourced with required medical, pharmaceutical, and other for the clinical operation. 
  • DRI and support the clinical team and leadership at KVSS for timely referral in case of hirer level/complicated health situations.
  • Serve as the point person to provide emergency services including communication of accurate information to the team, and providing other support during healthcare emergencies and other crisis situations. 
  • Ensure counseling service is available to the children and adults in the organization, and for the targeted families in the community. 
  • Develop and implement approved policies and protocols for the management and use of all clinic services to ensure effective support to all KVS students and community in line with the current legal and administrative procedures of the country.. 
  • Work with the team to ensure a clean and healthy school environment, and hygiene on campus including at the dining, kitchen, and wash areas. 
  • Managing crises as and when they arise and responding to emergency situations for the purpose of solving immediate safety concerns or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

Program Management:  Manage the programs under the Health & Wellness program with utmost efficiency and effectiveness. 

  • Manage the programs currently under the Health & Wellness umbrella - Family Development Program, counseling center, guardian onboarding, reintegration, and interventions. 
  • Oversee the interventions under the H&W program, such as case management, home visits, needs assessments, community outreach, community and family support, and community center, and interventions.
  • Make sure that program goals and key results set forth in annual plans in line with the strategic plan are achieved timely and with quality standards. 
  • Liaison between doctors, social workers, and teachers to provide the required and most appropriate health-related services for the students and staff.
  • Organize health awareness and intervention events, such as community health day, medical and dental checkups for students, regular community health checkups, and administer medication as needed in collaboration with local health care centers and community programs. 
  • Provide individual student interventions for drug and alcohol-related problems, mental health issues, and rehabilitation services.
  • Providing health literacy and community awareness for children’s health issues to ensure timely service and prevention measures, and other required and relevant health and safety topics.

Operational Management: Ensure robust operational management of the team and functions under the Health and Wellness Program. 

  • Support hiring and onboarding of the new team members, and supervise the H&W team (including the Clinic Technician, Clinic Assistant, Mental health counselors, Social workers, and Nutrition officer), enforcing policies and procedures for the KVSS.
  • Understand and communicate the strategic vision to program leads of each program area under the Health & Wellness. 
  • Ensure each team member has set goals and key results and is reporting in line with the annual plan stated in the results-based framework.
  • Provide team support with mentorship, frequent formal feedback, training and continued education, and annual performance reviews. 
  • Maintain and update all program databases, administrative documents, and presentations to ensure all information is accurate and timely. Use digital tools for data recording.
  • Work with relevant KVSS and Blinknow team members to forecast and create an annual budget, and implement the approved budget keeping track of the monthly expenditures of each program.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to maximize the availability of appropriate services, materials, and information, including public health posts, local hospitals, laboratories, government agencies, and NGOs other partner organizations.

Additional Responsibilities

The Associate Health & Wellness Manager is also expected to: 

  • Build positive working relationships and environment in the organization by bringing solutions to the discussion table. 
  • Build inter-program collaboration and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions and execution of duties. 
  • Report to the manager weekly, and provide monthly program updates and important reports as needed in case of urgent issues. 
  • Supervise the team with structured weekly 1:1 meetings with all direct reports and promote team alignment on the org-wide decisions.  
  • Ensure and enforce confidentiality in collected information/data as per school codes.
  • Work closely with the funding partner BlinkNow Foundation to ensure the strategic and vision alignment to ensure implementation of the strategic plan related to the school. 
  • Embrace and support the values of gender equity, social inclusion, and sustainability.
  • Represent KVSS professionally in all work-related interactions - community members, health workers, and colleagues.
