Introduction:
The National Federation for Right to Information (RTI-Federation) stands as a unifying force, bringing together like-minded organizations and individuals committed to advancing good governance, upholding the rule of law, and championing transparency and accountability in Nepal. Established in 2078 BS in Kathmandu, this umbrella organization comprises a diverse group with varying academic and cultural backgrounds, all dedicated to leveraging the tools of the right to information for societal betterment.
With a visionary outlook aiming for an & quot ;Equitable, Just, Accountable, and Transparent Governance System,& quot; RTI-Federation has set forth a mission to build robust networks of organizations and individuals. Their objectives include fighting against corruption, bribery, and the misuse of public resources. The federation seeks to cultivate RTI campaigners at the local level to expose corruption with evidence, halt monopolies, and support media in eradicating misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech. Additionally, it endeavors to promote community awareness, particularly among youth, women, dalits, indigenous, and other minority groups, through collaborative planning, community action, and policy advocacy.
As a testament to its reach and impact, RTI-Federation boasts 14 institutional members, eight provincial committees, 77 district committees, and local committees in select palikas. The organization recently achieved significant milestones with the successful completion of its first national summit and general assembly in Kathmandu. Noteworthy initiatives include youth awareness campaigns in 10 colleges, a seven-week community awareness campaign, and a three-day training of trainers focused on behavioral RTI practice. Furthermore, the federation has actively engaged in coordination meetings with various public authorities, striving to create an amiable environment conducive to access to information. In essence, RTI-Federation stands at the forefront of the fight for transparency, accountability, and the right to information in Nepal, uniting diverse stakeholders under a common banner for the collective betterment of society.
