Our mission is to build pathways out of poverty by improving the livelihoods of vulnerable children and women through holistic, community-based services. Our organisation focuses on three main programs: an after-school program that provides academic, emotional, and medical support for children living in orphanages and extreme poverty; a women’s literacy program to empower and educate women in our community; and teacher trainings in rural schools to provide educators with resources to help them improve outcomes in their classrooms.

Job Description

Sunsar Maya is seeking an Occupational Therapist with experience working with children with sensory processing, trauma/anxiety, and development issues to work in our Jorpati and Mahalaxmi locations. The therapist will spend three days per week at each location from approximately 3-6pm providing both individual and group therapies. (Note: we are looking for a therapist to focus more on developmental and social-emotional issues rather than physical disabilities.)

The therapist will work directly with the program and operations managers in Nepal and report to the executive director in the U.S.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and carry out comprehensive assessments and therapy plans for all children: art, music, and sensory therapies encouraged
  • Providing all needed treatment, both individual and group therapies
  • Keep detailed (online) records for each student
  • Provide recommendations and at-home therapy plans for staff and caretakers
  • Provide training to Sunsar Maya staff on identifying needs and treatments
  • Hold individual and group training and workshop sessions with family members and caretakers on providing better care
  • Work with Sunsar Maya management on building better services for our students
  • Provide regular reports to executive director in U.S.
  • Communicate with advisory therapists in U.S. on therapies, approaches, etc.

Desired​ ​Skills​ ​and​ ​Experience:

  • Experienced working with children (minimum 3 years)
  • Specific interest/experience in:
  1. Sensory integration and processing disorders
  2. Trauma and anxiety
  3. Social-emotional therapies
  • Learning delays
  • Strong oral and written skills–evaluation and report writing
  • Fluency in English (to communicate with U.S. staff)
