Raleigh International is a youth-driven organization supporting a global movement of young people to take action.

We exist to ignite youth-led action that creates solutions to the world’s most urgent problems. But while young people demand change now, they do not always know how to take action. We support young people by connecting them with the skills, networks, platforms and experiences to lead on the change they demand.

We work globally to promote the role of young people in decision making and civil society, creating meaningful youth employment and enterprise, protecting vulnerable environments, combating climate change, and ensuring the right to safe water and sanitation.

With over 35 years of experience working with over 55,000 young people from more than 100 countries, we’re an ever-evolving organization, constantly adapting to new ideas and challenges.

Raleigh International Nepal (RIN) is a subsidiary of RIUK and has been working in Nepal since 2015. Our Country office is in Khumaltar, Lalitpur Nepal. We promote the role of young people in decision making and civil society, creating meaningful youth employment and enterprise, protecting vulnerable environments, and combating climate change, and ensuring Sustainable livelihood and the right to safe water and sanitation.

The Youth Development Officer is a member of Raleigh Nepal’s in-country team. The purpose of the role will be to support the implementation of Raleigh Nepal’s Youth
Development strategy through engaging local youth to join our programmes, support all youth volunteers during the programme and support their transition to be active citizens through post placement actions and our National Youth Society. Although all aspects of the role are shared by the Youth Development team, individually each YDO has one specific area of responsibility and reports directly to their line manager for that area:

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Volunteer Engagement

  • In conjunction with your line manager, contribute and develop; Recruitment Strategy, Marketing Strategy, Social media communications strategy
  • Collaborate regularly with Head Office Marketing and Communications Team as part of their Business Partner Programme
  • Maintain engagement methods such as social media to maximise the impact of our marketing to ensure recruitment targets are met
  • Deliver Marketing Events to increase engagement and interest in the programmes.
  • Recruit and maintain a small cohort of alumni for marketing and promotional events
  • Work with Expedition Comms Officer and Photogrpaher to develop marketing materials and content for Raleigh International Nepal
  • Source suppliers / external consultants as and when required for marketing purposes

Recruitment & Selection

  • Build networks with local and national organisations/universities for recruitment purposes.
  • Nationwide travel as and when necessary for recruitment events
  • Manage all aspects of assessment days for potential volunteers
  • Manage all aspects of pre-departure events for selected volunteers
  • Effectively document of volunteer journey including database recording
  • Ensure all Raleigh policies and Quality Assurance protocols are maintained during all training events and throughout the volunteer journey
  • Recruit targeted numbers of In Country volunteers / Team Leaders / Volunteer
  • Managers as directed by your line manager
  • Review recruitment and selection procedures on a quarterly basis with your line manager
  • Recruit and train external assessors for assessment centres

Programme Support

  • Provide support and deliver training at volunteer / TL / VM induction in onjunction with the DOM
  • Attend Phase Reviews / Change overs / final reviews and deliver training in conjunction with the DOM
  • Provide volunteers with 1-2- 1 support where required
  • Liaise with DOM’s and COM regarding volunteer issues, including time off programme and other pastoral support
  • Point of contact for volunteer’s families during programme
  • Support the volunteer staff so that they can achieve Raleigh’s aims. This will include team-building, briefing, providing advice and guidance, and giving practical and moral support
  • Visit project sites once per cycle
  • Provide support to all Raleigh country staff to ensure projects are implemented against agreed plans, standards and criteria.
  • Support the training of Raleigh Volunteers to ensure their programmatic knowledge and strategic awareness is optimum for the delivery of a quality placement.
  • Maintain a sound knowledge of Raleigh International’s operating environment in
  • Nepal and understand developments of good practice and policies in relevant areas.

Alumni and National Society

  • Coordinate post placement alumni activities
  • Coordinate and capacity build the development of a Raleigh National Youth Society
  • Networking / relationship building with similar organisations/initiatives to expand the alumni / National Society networking opportunities
  • Create and deliver alumni engagement events and programmes
  • Focal point for UK Head Office Alumni initiatives / training / marketing

Job Description

  • Attend regular organizational meetings and contribute to the overall smooth operation of Raleigh in country.
  • Support senior staff to monitor and report on the implementation of agreed plans
  • Collect information as requested by Line Manager.
  • Take part in other Raleigh activities as requested.
  • Undertake other tasks and projects as requested by the Line Manager
  • Positively contribute to program strategy.
  • Contribute to regular review and revision of budgets and financial reports.

Person Specification

  • Experience of working with young people
  • Knowledge of youth-led, sustainable development
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Experience of delivering marketing strategies
  • Understanding of online marketing and social media
  • Proven recruitment experience
  • Working with local societies/understanding of institutional mechanisms

Desirable
