Job Description

The Communications Officer acts as the nucleus of the organization in consolidating and disseminating information for internal, external and potential members of the VIN community.

Their role is multifaceted, and combines the soft skills of a Public Relations practitioner with the hard skills of a Webmaster / Online Editor. 
VIN is looking for a creative and resourceful individual who thrives on pulling people together, through effective deployment of information, to make things happen.  This individual should come to understand VIN’s various stakeholders, target audiences, beneficiaries and media intimately, so as to pre-empt the needs of each group of people and pro-actively expedite the achievement of targets for VIN’s various community programs.

Equally important, the Communications Officer should also take pride in upholding website, social media, new media design, accessibility, usability and navigability standards, as well as being up-to-date on web technologies in developing, maintaining and evolving online tools and media channels.  

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain VIN’s websites and related on-line applications.
  • Promote VIN’s work through social media and websites through SEO.
  • Drive online solutions to maintain and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders that will increase the effectiveness of the VIN community. 
  • Liaise with stakeholders and relevant target audiences to develop web based tactical projects, to further VIN programs.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of VIN’s web presence by identifying and acting on opportunities for information and process improvement
  • Keeping abreast with latest social media/ networking tools for leverage of sponsorship and support for VIN’s ongoing and new programs
  • Optimisation of websites (SEO)
  • Managing, authoring and executing content through effective channels to improve communications with external/ internal VIN staff and volunteers such as:

VIN websites
VIN Social media
VIN alternative profile pages / links
(E.g. Ammado, Lonely Planet, GoAbroad, ProjectsAbroadPro, VolunteerMatch, idealist etc)
External 3rd party sites to publicize VIN
Create and disseminate monthly newsletters
Company, University & Sponsor Outreach Packs 
Best practice volunteer case studies, testimonials 


Mandatory Professional Skills Required                                                                                                                  

  • Wordpress developing skill is a must.
  • HTML5, CSS3, Responsive design.
  • Joomla & SEO knowledge is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and investigative skills with the ability to initiate, formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate new techniques and methodologies, operational procedures, practices and guidelines relevant to the online media role. 
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to develop, coordinate and manage projects and resources effectively to achieve work goals, to meet deadlines and commitments, manage and mitigate risk and ensure delivery of agreed outcomes that meet VIN’s requirements.  
  • Bachelor’s degree qualifications in information technology or related fields with relevant experience/ competency in managing internet/new media systems sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability in the development, installation, configuration and management of web-based applications and projects.

Salary: Rs 18,000 to 22,000 based on qualifications & experiences
