ASIA (Association for International Solidarity in Asia), founded in 1988 by prof. Namkhai Norbu, is a Non-Governmental Organization recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by the European Commission. ASIA aims to preserve the identity and cultural heritage of people of the Asian continent which holds the most diverse cultural groups. It promotes sustainable development processes that center local communities with their human, cultural, and environmental resources. In many years of experience, ASIA has directly served over 500,000 people in Tibet, Western China, India, Nepal, Mongolia, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. ASIA in Nepal ASIA has been working in Nepal since 1996 with a long distance sponsorship project. Since 2009, ASIA has been implementing projects for the purification of drinking water, hygiene and health education in the Rasuwa, Kavrepalanchowk and Dolpo districts in order to improve the health conditions of the population by giving support to 21 schools. In 2015, food security projects were started with the aim to promote a sustainable and environmentally friendly organic production model which can respond to climate change through the cultivation of highly adaptable local varieties and ecotypes in Sindhuli, Kavrepalanchok and Sindhupalchok districts. ASIA has been continuing implementing projects to promote sustainable agriculture, education and sanitation in urban and rural areas. ASIA has an office with expatriate and local staff in Kathmandu and is the signatory of General Agreement and Projects Agreements with the Social Welfare Department. ASIA has Nepal Agroforestry Foundation (NAF) and Center for Environmental and Agricultural Policy Research, Extension and Development (CEAPRED) as main implementing partners.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Program Manager:

  • Attend, monitor and check on daily basis WaSH activities at the site
  • Prepare two-weeks and monthly reports, stating the nature of works, workers employment and materials consumed for each work as per the formats agreed with ASIA
  • Supporting the Implementing Partner to draft the modifications of drawings and cost calculations, if required
  • Inform ASIA for any variations in design and drawings
  • Overview and verify work inspection documents including test results, if any, prior to submission to ASIA.
  • Actively promote at field level the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) aspects during construction supervision
  • Report to ASIA any security issues or accident
  • Carry out periodic meetings with all the stakeholders of the projects (e.g. Government Officers, Local WaSH Committee, Implementing Partner Representatives and beneficiaries) and report on them to ASIA
  • Identify and propose adjustments related to any discrepancies that may arise related to drawings and water supply system construction
  • Check on interim payment cash flow along with the implementing partners’ representatives and ASIA Program Manager.
  • Cross verify and tally the running bills of the WaSH partners with the actual work performed and standard BoQ, prior forwarding to the ASIA Program Manager
  • Any other work assigned by the ASIA project coordination team that is relevant and within the ability of the WaSH Technician.

Salary: NPR 62,000 To 72,000 NPR (food, transport and accommodation and all taxes included) plus accident and health insurance paid by ASIA Office.
