About Gender Transformative WASH Project: Gender Transformative WASH project is a 5 year project including 9 months inception phase. The project is funded by Dutch Government to contribute in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) program through safe water, sanitation and hygiene. The project has 3 core strategies: (1) increasing demand for improved WASH facilities and practices, (2) improving the quality of service provision and (3) improving governance of the sector. The project is implementing in two districts (Sindhuli and Sunsari) in Nepal.

Purpose: The position holder will be responsible for providing overall guidance in planning, designing, budgeting, implementing and monitoring core strategies and activities of the project. S/he will provide technical support to the project staff at Field Offices (FOs) and partner NGOs for planning, designing, budgeting, implementing and monitoring WASH project activities at community, district, and provincial level.  S/he will support for capacity building of project staff and partner NGOs at FOs in programming, reporting, and advocacy and for undertaking quality project deliveries.

Term and Location: Fixed term employment for 3 years based at Country Office Lalitpur with the possibility of extension up to project tenure.

Required Qualifications & Experiences:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Science, Community Development or Development Studies or Water and Sanitation/Environmental/Sanitary Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the area of rural water, sanitation and hygiene 
  • Experience of managing WASH projects will be added advantage
  • Excellent knowledge and experience on the social aspect of WASH, community led total sanitation (CLTS) approach, Mensural Hygiene Management, School WASH, and child to child approach and hygiene promotion through behavior change communication and gender transformative WASH programming
  • Knowledge of principles, policies, guidelines, and practices of WASH sector. 
  • INGO work experience preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality planning, good governance, accountability, implementation and monitoring of project activities in line with the WASH SDG program and government’s relevant policies, plans and guidelines
  • Prepare annual plan and budget for project interventions with project and NGOs staff at FOs
  • Ensure implementation of project interventions mainly total sanitation/hygiene promotion related activities through CLTS and child to child approach and behavior change communication
  • Ensure child, gender, disability and environment friendliness of WASH facilities 
  • Facilitate for mainstreaming of gender equality and social inclusion, and good governance into WASH interventions
  • Support MER Coordinator by providing available data and information (e.g. field visit reports) on the project to facilitate monitoring of project interventions.
  • Facilitate and support filed and NGOs staff, WASH Programme Coordinators and NGOs staff at FOs for routine monitoring of project activities at the district and community level
  • Capacity building of field and NGOs staff at FOs on program planning, implementation, and monitoring project intervention
  • Facilitate Field and NGOs staff for effective implementation of project interventions to upgrade the status of WASH and its coverage areas
  • Maintain smooth coordination and networking with relevant government organizations and other WASH and Nutrition related stakeholders at national level
