Himalayan Nature (HN) is a development and conservation research institute, an IUCN member, a partner of The IUCN SSC Asian Species Action Partnership (ASAP), and only a member of Alliance for Zero Extinction (AZE) from Nepal, dedicated to biodiversity and high-value species conservation, habitat management, as well as initiating scientific research on Himalayan biodiversity and the broader environment. HN promotes traditional knowledge and custodianship of indigenous communities, safeguarding the livelihood and well-being of the marginalized and natural resources-dependent communities across the protected areas to foster co-existence. It is now seeking applications for the position of Market System Associate (MSA) from highly motivated and result-oriented Nepalese candidates with proven experience and skills in Market System, value chain, sound knowledge of project implementation, community engagement, and entrepreneurship will be given priority.

Himalayan Nature is implementing CONNECT project in the buffer zone of Shuklapahanta National Park in Kanchanpur District, Sudurpaschim Paschim Province. CONNECT project is a consortium project of four organizations-Renewable World, Zoological Society of London (ZSL), National Trust for Nature Conservation and Himalayan Nature. It is funded by Jersey Overseas Aid. The project aims to strengthen linkage between conservation and livelihoods in and around the Shuklaphanta National Park and its buffer zone through its works in five municipalities in Kanchanpur. CONNECT project adopts market systems approach in its implementation of livelihoods activities surrounding agriculture, renewable energy technologies and tourism.

Position title: Technical Supervisor (Sub-overseer)
Number of positions available: One (1)
Duty Station: Field-based in Kanchanpur (Shuklaphanta National Park)
Duration of Contract: 12 months with possible extension based on performance
Salary: Attractive as per the institutional provision

Qualifications: Applicant should ideally have a Sub overseer (CTEVT recognized and or equivalent)/TSLC in Civil or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of working experience in relevant fields such as solar water lifting, cold storage, solar dryer, solar water heating system, and other renewable energy technologies. S/he should have experience in the use of GPS, Abney Level, level machines, and basic electrical appliances.

Role Summary

The Technical Supervisor will support the Senior RTO in the implementation of project activities related to renewable energy technologies in rural communities. S/he should be knowledgeable in community engagement, program planning and implementation, and monitoring and reporting.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Renewable Energy Engineer in conducting pre-feasibility and detailed surveys and collecting data for RET system design.
  • Assist in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of renewable energy systems, ensuring efficiency and compliance with technical standards.
  • Collaborate with project partners and community mobilizers to provide technical guidance and promote the effective use of local resources (cash, kind, and construction materials).
  • Monitor the quality of work and materials to ensure adherence to approved designs and estimates, and manage safe storage of equipment.
  • Support community groups and entrepreneurs in procuring locally available materials.
  • Conduct regular field visits to provide technical backstopping and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Assist the MEAL officer in field monitoring to ensure that community and farmer feedback is incorporated into project activities.
  • Prepare and submit timely progress reports in standard formats.
  • Participate in review and planning meetings, supporting the development of implementation plans.
  • Maintain accurate records and measurements for all construction-related activities.
  • Train and mentor local communities to enhance technical skills and the sustainability of RET systems.
  • Support the project team in mobilizing local stakeholder resources and funds where applicable.
