Job Title:  Teacher Coaches (Program Coordinators)
Reports to:  Leadership Development Manager
Number of positions: 7
Location: The position is based in TFN placement region:  Lalitpur, Sindhupalchowk, Dhanusha, Parsa, Lamjung, Dang.

Job Purpose:

Teach for Nepal is a movement of outstanding university graduates and young professional who are committed to end education inequity in Nepal starting with two years of Fellowship teaching in public schools.

Teacher Coaches (Program Coordinators), coach, support, mentor, and train about 18-20 Fellows. Through classroom observation feedback and one-on-one coaching and training, they support Fellows to drive rigorous student outcomes, both academic and non academic. Teacher coaches partner with Fellows to achieve Teach for Nepal’s Student Vision.

Key Responsibilities:  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Partner with Fellows towards ensuring that students in TFN classrooms are driving towards academic and non-academic achievement
  • Empower and support to Fellows to develop the required knowledge skills and mind-sets necessary to drive vision driven outcomes
  • Develop an understanding of Fellow’s needs and support and empower to resolve personal or professional challenges in achieving their Fellowship goals
  • Understand and help Fellows understand the social context, assets and challenges within the community that influences student outcomes
  • Develop and help Fellows develop and foster empowering relationship with other Fellows in their cluster, school community at large, students and their families
  • Support Fellows in aligning their actions to the core vision of Teach for Nepal as well as their goals for the specific schools and students
  • Support Fellows in building deep insights and understanding of their leadership journey by reflecting on the challenges, hardship and obstacles that they’ve faced
  • Collaborate with Fellows to identify resources and support available to solve problems and obstacles in driving strong classroom outcomes
  • Lead the cluster of Fellows in a way that demonstrates a strong culture of collaboration, provides a space for physical and emotional safety and provide opportunity for the Fellows to experience physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually rejuvenating activities
  • Conduct training and workshops at the Training Institute and ongoing professional development training series
  • Document best practices and facilitate cross learning amongst Fellows

Other Responsibilities

  • Work with Recruitment and Selection team to devise best selection criteria and identify the best candidates for the Fellowship Program
  • Support other aspects of the program when required

Competencies 

  • Demonstrates deep commitment and understanding of TFN’s mission and Theory of Change
  • Results-oriented, ability to work with data, strategic and critical thinker, ability to prioritize and give equal effort and attention to multiple projects
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, mediate conflicts, negotiate and communicate assertively in Nepali and English
  • Ability to listen carefully and provide meaningful advice and guidance
  • Ability to lead a team towards meeting the larger mission of TFN– to inspire, to create a culture of success, and build a relationship of mutual trust

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in teaching English/Math/Science in secondary school, preferably in public/community schools or experience in training teachers, OR 2 years of teaching experience and 2 years of experience in Education Leadership or managerial position
  • An ideal candidate would also have working experience in/with rural communities, with good insights into public education systems and the challenges and opportunities of low-income, under-resourced government school
  • Knowledge of pedagogies, learning theories and teaching tools and techniques
  • Strong computer competency in Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Ability and willingness to relocate in one of the TFN placement region and travel back to Kathmandu as and when required
  • Given the position requires frequent travels to schools in rural villages, access to personal motorcycle/vehicle and driving license would be an additional asset
