Situational analysis for Promotion of clean cooking in Lalitpur Metropolitan City and Shankharapur municipality

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature review, interact with key stakeholders, and conduct necessary surveys to collect and analyze relevant data and information on the current situation of fuel used for cooking and the use of clean cooking options in Lalitpur Metropolitan City and Shankharapur municipalities.
  • Map key stakeholders that can contribute to the wider adoption of clean cooking technologies in these municipalities. 
  • Review and analyze local governments’ interest, plans and policies (if there are any) related to households and institutional air quality, and the promotion of clean cooking technologies.
  • Examine knowledge, attitude and practices related to cooking fuels and technologies in the communities under review including small businesses such as tea shops.
  • Identifies key barriers and enablers to wider uptake of clean cooking technologies in the specified locations. 
  • Lay out potential interventions on the technical, social, behavioral, and policy fronts to increase the adoption of electric cooking among urban and suburban populations, including the poor, women-headed and underserved households involving institutional resources (e.g. human resources, budget) of municipalities and other local and relevant institutions.
  • Mobilize youth to collect data on cooking practices and promotion of clean cooking options as part of USAID’s citizen science initiative.
  • Prepare and submit a draft final report which will be presented in a workshop with stakeholders. 
  • Organize a half-day workshop together with USAID Clean Air where key stakeholders will discuss the findings of the study and on the way forward.
  • Submit a final report incorporating the inputs gained during the half day workshop. 

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in social studies or related field. 
  • Around three to five years of work experience in indoor air pollution and household cooking sector. 
  • Good knowledge of the indoor air quality issues related to household cooking. 
  • Good analytical skills and networking skills to engage with key stakeholders.
  • Good command in oral in both Nepali and English languages.
