Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature review, consult with key stakeholders, and conduct necessary surveys to collect and analyze relevant data and information on the current situation and trends in the transport sector and its impact on air pollution in Kathmandu Valley. The situational analysis should contain, but not limited to, the following: 
       a. The transport management system within Kathmandu valley and its contribution to air pollution. 
       b. Public transport system in Kathmandu valley.
       c. Clean transport options such as walking, cycling, and public electric vehicles in the valley. 
  • Identify key issues, challenges, and opportunities to promote clean transport in Kathmandu valley
    a. Review of and recommendation for street network of a few sample neighborhoods to encourage walking and cycling.
    b. Review of and recommendation for roadway standards and design practices to encourage walking and cycling.
    c. Recommendation for policy, strategies, and institutional framework to be adopted by local government to provide sustained clean transport in Kathmandu valley 
  • Develop suitable projects for effective transport management by improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and promotion of clean transport in five focus local governments— Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Changunarayan, Chandragiri and Shankhrapur, through which USAID Clean Air can assist for promoting clean transport in Kathmandu valley. The projects should be developed with active participation of key stakeholders including local governments, relevant agencies, private sector, and local people. 
  • Prepare and submit a draft final report which will be presented in a workshop with stakeholders. 
  • Organize a one-day workshop together with USAID Clean Air where key stakeholders will discuss the findings of the study and the way forward.
  • Submit a final report incorporating the inputs gained during the half day workshop. 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in transport management or related field with five  years of work experience in multimodal transport network planning and management in urban areas, particularly urban streetscape design, intersection, and street re-design with focus on pedestrian and cyclists’ safety and tactical urbanism.
  • Knowledge and experience in public transport planning. 
  • Knowledge and experience in traffic engineering and operational analysis.
  • Good analytical skills and networking skills to engage with key stakeholders.
  • Good command in oral in both Nepali and English languages.
