The Padma Shree Group was founded by Late Mr. Badri P. Thapaliya. A man with a vision who saw the rich natural resources of Nepal could be harnessed and utilized for great economic development. Taking an early retirement from government service, he laid the foundation stone of the group “Shree Padma Saw Mill & Furniture Factory Pvt. Ltd.” in 1963. Initially the company’s main focus was towards the domestic demand fulfilment of timber and furniture. Then, the company started exporting timber and Railway sleepers to the Indian market and Indian Railways. Furniture was a small side produce of this larger business. There was a dearth of quality furniture in Nepal. People, who could afford it, imported them from outside Nepal. It was then realized that Nepal could form a sustainable base for quality furniture. This gave birth to “Shree Padma Furniture Factory Pvt. Ltd.” in 1978.
