Foundation for Development Management (FDM) (www.fdm.com.np) is a private limited company registered under the Company Act of Government of Nepal in 2000 as a development support organization. Over its past two decades of operation, FDM has conducted a number of assignments pertaining to Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Institutional Development. Having served over 35 national and international clients comprising of government, non–government and donor organizations, FDM primarily works under the thematic areas of education, health, governance, child rights, DRR and GESI. FDM is based in Kathmandu, Nepal and has 15 full-time program staff, over 100 consultants and pool of enumerators spread over 67 districts. In its two decades of operation, it has successfully completed more than 100 M&E and research assignments.

Job Description

FDM is looking for Researchers with intermittent inputs from November 2015 to January 2016 (approximately 20 to 25 days) for two of its upcoming projects:

1. Name of the project: Reality Check Approach (RCA) study in disaster affected areas

Number of Vacancies: 3

Type of appointment: Consultant contract

The RCA is a means of qualitative study where the main idea is to have sustained, detailed conversations and intense interactions with a small number of households through staying with families for several days and nights in their own homes.

Eligibility: We are looking for young and enthusiastic individuals who can adapt to living with rural communities in their own environment for a short period of time. Individuals who are currently pursuing/completed their Masters in any subject and having fluency in Nepali and working knowledge of English are encouraged to apply.

2. Name of the project: Impact of community based disaster risk reduction interventions in earthquake affected districts

Number of Vacancies: 12

Type of appointment: Consultant contract

As the local research partner for University of Durham, FDM will be conducting Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to review the Nepal Risk Reduction Consortium’s (NRRC) 9 Minimum Characteristics of a Disaster Resilient Community. The aim of this review is to determine if communities that have been subject to a Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) intervention based on the 9 Minimum Characteristics of a Disaster Resilient Community are in a stronger position to protect themselves and to recover from the severe stresses associated with a disaster event.

Eligibility: Individuals who have completed their Bachelors in either Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology or Development Studies and have at least 2 years of experience in the field of research (having used qualitative tools) are encouraged to apply.
