Job Description

Reporting to: Research Manager    

Probationary Period: 4 months

Purpose:
Sunaulo Parivar Nepal (SPN), an implementing partner of Marie Stopes International is looking for Nepali citizen for the Research Officer role to provide support in conducting research, monitoring and evaluation activities. The Research officer will work closely with research manager, regional managers and other key stakeholders to ensure the attainment of SPN’s goals and objectives and the compliance to MSI’s global RME standards, as well as fulfilment of RME commitments to donors.  

Key Responsibilities:
1. Support to effectively lead the RME in the organisation:

  • Assist in ensuring all RME projects are efficiently and effectively executed
  • Contribute to develop and deliver RME plan for organisation to support strategic goals; facilitate integration of RME into other departments of the organisation
  • Develop and maintain research database as per project requirement

2. Aid in innovative research across the programme aligned with MSI goals:

  • Support in ensuring all research undertaken by SPN is of high quality and fulfils ethical requirements 
  • Coordinate annual operational research activities 
  • Ensure coordination and communication with centres, outreach team, government and other stakeholders, including NHRC in regard to RME activities
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of findings and reports (internal and external)

3. Assist in developing and implementing organisational Monitoring and Evaluation activities:

  • Contribute in development of research, monitoring and evaluation protocol 
  • Communicate, coordinate and arrange logistics and technical support to the enumerators for the field activities
  • Facilitate research activities to support projects
  • Undertake field visits to support the implementation of M&E strategies
  • Provide field supervision to the enumerators during their field work

Person Specification:

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Public Health, Statistics or related discipline. Masters in Public Health, statistics or related discipline preferred

 Experience:

  • At least 2 years working in Research and Metrics, ideally within the Reproductive Health sector
  • Demonstrated capabilities of producing results when working with individuals with varying levels of expertise
  • Experience in coordinating and conducting training, field work, logistics management and monitoring research projects
  • Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research
  • Have a good understanding of and exposure to statistical software e.g. SPSS and proficient in Microsoft office programme 

Skills:

  • Excellent communications, computer, time management and interpersonal skills 
  • IT literacy – proficiency in MS Office (Excel essential) MS projects (desirable) and SPSS, Stata or equivalent
  • Proven ability to interpret verbal, written and numerical data
  • Skilled in data analysis and report writing
  • Fluent English and Nepali language
