Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s level degree(s) or equivalent in relevant field such as Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, or Statistics is required.
  • Experience in statistical analysis software 
  • Relevant experience conducting, managing and designing field work and data collection for empirical research
  • Excellent written English communication skills, with focus on data protocols, data papers, and descriptive reports for a diverse audience
  • Fluent in the local language preferred
  • Relevant work experience as a Research Data Assistant or business data assistant

Skills and Abilities:

  • Highly skilled in research and analysis: Very strong qualitative and analytic skills; keen attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills: Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc.), databases (SQL, etc.), and data visualization tools (Microsoft Power BI, etc.). Also, Research Data Assistant are often called to present their findings or translate the data into an understandable document. You will need to write and speak clearly, easily communicating complex ideas
  • Analytical Skills: Research Data Assistant work with large amounts of data: facts, figures, and number crunching. You will need to see through the data and analyze it to find conclusions.
  • Critical Thinking: Research Data Assistant must look at the numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings.
  • Attention to Detail: Data is precise: Research Data Assistant have to make sure they are vigilant in their analysis to come to correct conclusions
  • Math Skills: Research Data Assistant need math skills to estimate numerical data
  • Other: Demonstrated competence with Using standard data software packages (MS Excel, MS Access, etc.)

Job Description

Job Overview:

The purpose of this post is to provide support to the GSIGNALX team on data management, entry, cleaning, analysis, and dissemination of results from a prospective, rigorous impact evaluation of a result-based financial and regularity domain of the company. 

The research data assistant will work on direct supervision of the Research and Development Unit of the company. 

Reports to: Research and Development Unit Head

Scope of Work:

Specifically, the Research Data Assistant will contribute to the following areas:

  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports
  • Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets 
  • “Filter and clean” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators 
  • Work with management to prioritize business and information needs
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
  • Assist the team in improving and streamlining processes regarding data flow and data quality to improve data accuracy, viability and value.
  • Design model for data verification/validation with multiple sources.
  • Database administration (I.e. permission granting and management) along with maintaining performance.
  • Review data files and basic data cleaning to ensure all observations are uniquely identified and reported data is internally consistent
  • Conduct merging across data files to ensure clean merges
  • Construct variables in accordance with international and local data definitions 
  • Construct baseline difference in means tests and export to related data tool
  • Produce summary statistics of key outcome and covariate variables
