Supported by a Government of India grant, and following the approach of Owner Driven Reconstruction (ODRC), UNDP has partnered with the ODR Collective (ODRC), a network of India-based institutions, including SEEDS Technical Services (STS), Hunnarshala Foundation, UNNATI – Organization for Development Education, and Centre for Eco centric Development and Peoples’ Action (CEDAP) to work in 6 Gaupalikas and 2 Nagarpalikas, covering 26,912 houses. STS functions as ODRC secretariat with the executive director of STS as current convener of ODRC.

The project aims to provide socio-technical facilitation services through enhancement of homeowners’ awareness, ensuring adequate skill building of artisans, enabling house owners to incorporate disaster resistant features in their houses and comply with the government norms.

Job Description

Position Objective: The QA Engineer will ensure quality assurance in all aspects of the project through regular field visits and conducting techno-social monitoring by applying different techniques

Responsibilities:

  • To conduct quality monitoring exercises through regular field visits and conducting socio-technical surveys in different geographical areas of the project 
  • Compile socio-technical survey data and field observations in an articulate manner for further sharing with wider audience
  • Participate in preparation of periodic reports
  • Participate in analyzing the socio-technical facilitation services provided in the project areas 
  • Ensure close coordination with the District Support Team (DST) and the Core Technical (CTT) as per the contextual need, and suggest course correction, as and when required, and participate in preparation of guidelines for corrective actions

Qualification/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering with 5 years or, master with 3 years of relevant experience 
  • 2 years of field experience including primarily (a) Mason training, (b) Owner Driven Reconstruction, (c) other disaster recovery projects in Nepal (both urban and rural)
  • Demonstration of socio-technical skills
  • Excellent documentation skills 
  • Experience in the usage of software such as, Auto Cad, SAP/ ETabs &MS Office etc.

Competency:

  • Ability to work and act under pressure and with discretion in a politically and socially sensitive environment 
  • Ability to travel under harsh condition in rough terrain whenever required, through public transport, by foot or motor bike as the situation may demand
  • Willing and able to be mobile on motorcycle in the hilly terrain on regular basis. Ability to ride motorbike in the hilly terrain with a valid driving license
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written Nepali and reasonable knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Ability to communicate with people in different socio-cultural background and conduct group meetings

Age: Ideally not more than 35
