Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Thorough knowledge on Nepalese handicraft traditions and know the craft traditions of the countries regions

  • Establish strategic linkages with relevant organizations and enterprise development
  • Technical and managerial competences in assigned responsibilities
  • Strong ability to develop, manage and monitor budgets. 
  • Practical knowledge of the market and business situation and are able to facilitate market linkages of the group
  • Well versed with Government rules and regulation related to handicrafts
  • Proficient in English and Nepali, spoken and written
  • Seek the opportunities and have an optimistic mindset and a go-getter attitude and able to create solutions
  • Understand the socio economic situation and constraints of the target groups
  • Skills and techniques in facilitating women's group of minimum 25 persons
  • Basic understanding and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger and the environment
  • Demonstrate a high degree of honesty and integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Motivated to work responsibly with little supervision

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, both local and national. This is a Kathmandu based position and requires over 50% of time to be spent in the field

Job Description

Function: 

The Handicraft Project Leader in Kathmandu/Lamjung for WAWCAS program in accordance to Slisha's objectives, policies and procedures. 

Train, supervise and coordinate WAWCAS handicraft groups to develop and maintain accountability in the program. As a member of WAWCAS team, this position will interact with LPLs, TLs PM, FO and PD to promote consistency throughout the program.

Major Roles and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and supervise the overall handicraft programme
  • Define the content, plan and lead local training sessions 
  • find locations for the craft centers 
  • Lead and define the process of the craft making (who makes what)and make sure the team is fully aligned 
  • Prepare monthly reports in English 
  • Prepare the program's annual budget, including currency calculations, in Excel 

Management of handicraft project :

  • Sourcing of materials
  • Technical knowhow within craft making
  • Work with women's group with entire production process (sampling, production control, QC etc.) 
  • Product Pricing

Coordination and networking:

  • Establish and maintain close working relationship with GOs/NGOs/Private sectors that are active in promotion of handicraft skills, training and related activities
  • Build WAWCAS Craft as a business for the women and assist in identifying local sales channels and support export
  • Regular Skype meeting with International partners (Lis Beck and Nina Schriver).
