Nepal GoodWeave Foundation (formerly Nepal RugMark Foundation) is a Non-Profit making and Non-Government Organization established in December 1995 AD as a result of collaboration among Carpet Entrepreneurs, Child Rights NGOs, and International Development Organizations, viz. UNICEF, the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Asian American Free Labour Institute (AAFLI).

Being a country affiliate of GoodWeave International (GWI), Nepal GoodWeave Foundation (NGF) has proven to be a viable initiative to effectively address the child labor issues in the carpet industry of Nepal. In its more than 24 years of operation in Nepal, it has been able to bring more than 50% of the carpet industry to the GoodWeave’s viable standards including carpet weaving and spinning sectors. Moreover, it is largely expanding towards covering the entire carpet industry of Nepal and replicating its sustainable model to other industries.

Through its multi-pronged approach along with Inspection, Monitoring and Certification mechanism, GoodWeave tries to maintain child labor free environment in the Nepali carpet industry in preventing children to enter into the factories as child laborers. On the other hand, it provides meaningful alternatives like education, rehabilitation and skills development trainins to the children through its various programs and activities.

Job Description

This senior‐level position will work closely with the NGF's Executive Director and is responsible to plan, manage and coordinate the social programs of NGF including child development/protection activities and to oversee the livelihood support activities focused on weaving communities while ensuring that the work is integrated within GoodWeave’s overall program strategy for support to workers and families in the carpet sector.

Term: Regular (Duration: Initially 2 years with 6 month probation period) Age: 30 ‐45 years

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee implementation of child labor focused rehabilitation programs, preventive programs and social program's directives of NGF, in consultation with the Executive Director.
  • Integrate livelihood and disaster victim support activity with other program service areas such as weaver training, daycare and child rehabilitation to ensure that overall programme approach is cohesive and that efforts are mutually supportive,
  • Develop programme reporting systems, write regular programme reports, and oversee monthly social data reporting.
  • Plan and monitor project activities in coordination with stakeholders at central to local level.
  • Carry out the education, training, monitoring and counseling activities focusing on children and carpet workers.
  • Supervise and control project activities as per organization's policies and guidelines.
  • Coordinate and interact with governmental and non governmental organizations including concerned donors.
  • Directly supervise the work of 18 staff members including partner organizations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Master's Degree in social sciences or related field from recognized university,
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in management level in child development/protection, livelihood support and social or disaster management sector,
  • Good understanding and well aware on child labor prevention and rehabilitation policies/instruments,
  • Good interpersonal communications, negotiation and influencing skills, computer proficiency & good in written and spoken English and Nepali languages.
