CZOP, a national coalition of organizations working in the field of child rights (Children and Schools as Zones of Peace), has emerged as a movement that advocates for protection and promotion of children’s basic rights during and after armed-conflicts. Building up on the movements that developed in Nepal in early 2001, this coalition has forged to magnify and strengthen the efforts to declare children as Zones of Peace including establishment of Schools as Peace Zone. .

Nepal government has promulgated the Nepal's Constitution 2072 and its implementation phase therefore it is necessary to ensure the rights of the child from central to local level as well as UPR recommendation (Child Centre) and CRC concluding observation need to implement and also review the midterm of these documents to update the status of implementation. For this, CZOP already started the movement on ensuring the rights of the child from central to local level in coordination with government agencies, networks and development partners and also document the best practices on rights of the child.

Also, CZOP has been nominated on behalf of NACG Nepalas coordinating organization for CSOs project entitled Increased Accountability of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) for The Realization of Children’s Right to Protection with the objectives of

  • Foster child rights and gender perspectives in SAARC commitments to address Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) /Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC);
  • Strengthen the functionality and structure of NACGs for effective and evidence based Regional advocacy relating to gender-sensitive and inclusive child protection
  • Improve institutionalization of child participation and gender equality in the existing SAIEVAC structure and activities

Summary of the Position:

The post holder will be responsible for the smooth functioning of the Secretariat of CZOP. S/He will take coordination roles between the member organizations of the Coalition and similar coalition at Provincial, local even in regional (South Asia Region) Level. S/He will work towards achieving the CZOP's objective under the guidance of the Executive Board.

As well as the post holder will be responsible for the smooth functioning of the activities designed under the CSOs project in the guidance of CZOP board as well as NACG Nepal. S/he will take coordination roles among all NACGs, NACG Nepal & its members, Government of Nepal especially Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens and SAIEVAC. S/he will work for planning and managing initiations for advocacy campaigns and contribute to overall project goal of promoting and protecting the rights of the children in the regional level.

Key Responsibilities:

Member secretary of the Executive Board:

  • Call meetings as agreed in the Executive Board or as per advice of the General Secretary
  • Arrange/Facilitate Board Meetings as well as circulate the decisions made to the required members
  • Leading role in developing and revision of policies, guidelines, strategies of organizations as well fund raising, and implementation
  • Translate national and international documents, accords and treaties in both languages i.e. English and Nepali
  • Coordinate and facilitate the advocacy efforts/strategies at regional (SAARC) level through collaboration amongst NACGs and CSO Project steering committee
  • Develop IEC Materials for advocacy and disseminate widely across the regions
  • Networking: with all concern stakeholders in regional level(NACGs, SAIEVAC,NHRIs, Parliamentarian, UN agencies, UNSRSG on VAC and Government bodies
  • Regular Communication/Coordination with NACGs, SAIEVAC. CRC ASIA, PLAN Regional office and Government bodies of SAARC
  • Develop Work plan, implementation strategy and ensure the timely implementation and reporting

Communication and information management/documentation:

  • To liaise between individual members of CZOP and between the executive board and its member organizations
  • Regular communication and update to the regional, national, provincial and local level members/concern agencies about the progress of the CZOP
  • Develop the IEC materials and dissemination plan as per need
  • Technical support to the member organizations on the CZOP agendas based on request

Representation:

  • Represent the CZOP as instructed by the chair and general secretary in different forums and present within the CZOP's guidelines.
Office Management:

  • The position holder will be responsible for the administration of the secretariat and will be responsible for the float management and supervision of account keeping.
Line management:

  • The Position holder will report to the Executive Board and be line managed by the General Secretary of the executive board

Key competencies required:

  • Must have completed master degree and above
  • Must have 5+years working experience (Senior Position) in child rights field preferably at national level
  • Preferred experiences of networking and engagement with South Asia regional movement and organizations as well as government bodies on Child Rights
  • Experience in managing partnership relation with bilateral, multilateral funding partners, CSOs and Government bodies
  • Understanding and application of advocacy approaches at different levels using micro level of learning's and experiences
  • Excellent reading, writing and speaking skills of English and added advantage if known other SAARC country languages
  • Excellent Computer skills mostly MS. Office, email, internet
  • Sensitive and responsive to gender, ethnicity, disability and HIV/AIDS issues and other core CZOP values
  • Basic knowledge on accounting, handling press, office management
