The Leprosy Mission (TLM) is a UK based international non-government organization active in 34 countries; started its work in Nepal from 1957 with establishment of Anandaban Hospital in Lele, the sourthern part of Lalitpur. However, from 2005 TLM Nepal has been working as independent NGO in partnership with TLM international and the Government of Nepal to provide specialist tertiary care and technical support for leprosy control programs. It also undertakes internationally recognized research into leprosy and implements disability inclusive community development programs through its own activities and strategic partnership.

Being one of the largest NGOs in the country working in the field of leprosy, TLM Nepal mainly focuses in working with and for people affected by leprosy. Its development interventions focuses in the areas of health, capacity building, education, sustainable livelihoods, community development, advocacy and research working towards equity and inclusion of people affected by leprosy and disability in the development process.

Job Description

The Physiotherapist will support the delivery of physical rehabilitation and therapeutic interventions for patients, including those affected by leprosy and general orthopedic conditions. This role involves conducting basic assessments, assisting with treatments and exercises, and ensuring patients receive quality care as part of the physiotherapy team. The position is essential in helping restore and improve patients’ physical function and mobility.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Attend orthopedic and leprosy ward rounds for pre- and post-operative rehabilitation.
  • Perform routine assessments and assist in planning exercises following reconstructive surgery.
  • Retrain patients in mobility using aids such as walking frames, crutches, and wheelchairs.
  • Fabricate splints and casts as required.
  • Participate in outreach programs, satellite clinics, camps, and community visits.
  • Supervise and assist with therapeutic exercises (general and leprosy-specific).
  • Provide health education to admitted patients and their families.
  • Support practical and theoretical training for visitors and trainees.
  • Document assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately.
  • Encourage and motivate patients coping with long-term disabilities or slow recovery.
  • Assist in physiotherapy treatments (exercise, massage, electrotherapy) under supervision.
  • Monitor and report patient responses to treatment, including adverse reactions.
  • Educate patients and families on posture, exercise techniques, and self-care strategies.
  • Maintain and prepare physiotherapy equipment and therapeutic modalities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Respond to emergencies within the physiotherapy department as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the reporting manager.
