Job Description

Reports to: Project Manager

Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in firefighting and plumbing for data centers, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the implementation of efficient and compliant mechanical systems. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of fire protection and plumbing systems within data center environments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design & Development:

  • Develop detailed designs for firefighting and plumbing systems, including sprinklers, fire suppression, hydrants, water supply, drainage, and sanitary systems.
  • Create 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NFPA, local building codes).

2. Project Management:

  • Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, and construction teams to integrate mechanical designs into overall project plans.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure the correct selection and procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to meet project milestones.

3. Technical Analysis:

  • Perform calculations and simulations to verify system performance, including hydraulic calculations for firefighting systems.
  • Conduct risk assessments and failure mode analysis to ensure system reliability and safety.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and documentation.

4. Site Supervision:

  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems on-site.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting during construction and post- construction phases.

5. Compliance & Quality Control:

  • Ensure all designs and installations meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure high standards of workmanship.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on firefighting and plumbing systems.
  • Experience in data center projects is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) and hydraulic modeling tools.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA codes, ASME standards, and local building regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Certifications:

  • CTDC/ATD certification.
  • Certifications in fire protection engineering (e.g., NFPA certification) are a plus.
  • Familiarity with data center design standards (e.g., Uptime Institute, TIA-942) is advantageous.

Work Environment:

  • This position involves both office work and on-site supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strict deadlines.
  • Fixed-Term Contract: 2 Years (with Potential for Extension)
