Street Child is an international charity based in the United Kingdom that aims to create avenues for out-of- school children to access education by through an integrated approach that strengthens the capacity of teachers, schools and communities to sustain their investment in the education for their children.

Following the devastating earthquakes in April and May 2015 that left more than 1 million children out of school and destroyed or damaged over 50,000 classrooms, Street Child UK expanded its operations into Nepal to assist local partners to re-establish education in some of the country’s worst affected communities. 

With the support of DFID, it is now implementing education and livelihood program targeting marginalized girls in Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts in Nepal.Street Child of Nepal is therefore calling applications in following position for the implementation of its new program:

Job Description

Reports To: Country Director
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:30 pm

Objective/Purpose of the Position:

The Inclusive Education (IE) Specialist will primarily be responsible for technical leadership of educational aspects of the projects. S/he will serve as the supporting member to all the projects being implemented by SCoN with responsibility for preparing, managing and delivering work related to the inclusive aspects of the projects including developing components such as the curriculum, teacher working manuals, developing teacher training content, contribute towards assessment tools and delivering and supervising the trainings in the field. The incumbent(s) will also lead in educational activities in terms of capacity development of consortium partners, government counterparts with an aim to incorporate Inclusive Education pedagogies during the different phases in project management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • S/he will be the technical lead towards the consortium on IE with focus that can accommodate children in humanitarian crisis, children with disabilities, children from hard-to- reach communities and out-of- school girls.
  • S/he will closely work with Programs Manager towards the teacher training component in humanitarian response projects with focus on DRR, WASH and psychosocial support.
  • Work with district team and consortium team to deliver the planned educational activities such as teacher training and training of trainers.
  • Developing guidance for consortium partners’ Education Officers in the delivery of planned activities.
  • Collaborate with consortium partners, government counterparts to ensure smooth implementation of the educational components of the projects.
  • Developing assessment tools to support monitoring and evaluation of educational components of the projects.
  • Accompany district team and consortium team for monitoring visit and also lead the joint monitoring team with different stakeholders such as donors, government counterparts.
  • S/he will take lead in assessment of existing tools, manuals and other relevant documents to assure that the tools are gender, disability and ethnicity inclusive.
  • Work in the consortium to develop the learning levels for the children and design the tools to assess the literacy abilities in the beneficiaries.
  • Provide technical inputs during the preparation of promotional materials such as pamphlets, banners for educational activities.
  • Facilitate grievance handling (feedback mechanism) at district level for IE activities.
  • Work with M&E team to assure proper documentation of the all the activities of the educational aspects of the project.
  • Work closely with all the stakeholders at national, regional and district level to assure proper project management.

  • Excellent written and oral communication in Nepali and English. Maithili would be an asset.

Education and Experience:

  • Masters degree in Education or relevant social science, focus on inclusive education in terms of gender, disability and DRR is desirable. PhD in Education will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in technical aspects of Inclusive education with 3 years of experience as Inclusive Education Lead in multi-year government or international government organization projects targeting hard-to- reach communities. Experience with working with girls, children with disabilities and teacher training is a must.
  • Humanitarian response experience would be an added advantage.
  • Prior experience on Accelerated Learning Programmes is desirable.
  • Excellent facilitation, training, and capacity building skills are expected.
  • Knowledge of learning level assessment at different levels is must.
  • Computer skills- at least basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office.
