Street Child is an international charity based in the United Kingdom that aims to create avenues for out-of- school children to access education by through an integrated approach that strengthens the capacity of teachers, schools and communities to sustain their investment in the education for their children.

Following the devastating earthquakes in April and May 2015 that left more than 1 million children out of school and destroyed or damaged over 50,000 classrooms, Street Child UK expanded its operations into Nepal to assist local partners to re-establish education in some of the country’s worst affected communities. 

With the support of DFID, it is now implementing education and livelihood program targeting marginalized girls in Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts in Nepal.Street Child of Nepal is therefore calling applications in following position for the implementation of its new program:

Job Description

Reporting to: Finance Director
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:00 pm

Objective/Purpose of the Position:

The Finance and Admin Officer will work together with Finance Director to support and ensure alignment between Street Child of Nepal’s financial, accounting and administrative sustainability. He or she will drive strategic depth across the organisation through implementing of strong internal controls, continuous analysis of targets, financial data and evidence, and building a sound finance, accounting and administrative functions

Key Responsibilities:

  • Keep accurate and complete record of financial transactions in the computerized accounting system
  • Maintain proper filing of vouchers and backup documents and safe storage of cheque books and banking documents
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, bank reconciliation statements and to reconcile account balances
  • Liaise with Partners of Street Child of Nepal to monitor day to day financial activities
  • Receive and check accuracy of financial reports and supporting documents submitted by the Partners of Street Child
  • Reconcile accounts receivable and payable on monthly basis
  • Ensure timely payments to all vendors and staffs, ensuring compliance with Street Child of Nepal and donor agencies rules and regulations
  • Process petty bills (supply and services, utilities, repair and maintenance)
  • Prepare salary sheets of Street Child of Nepal staff and ensure timely deposits of salaries, taxes and other employment related liabilities
  • Keep record of and file TDS for all payments made to staff, vendors, and suppliers
  • Maintain proper inventory records of goods and equipment owned by Street Child of Nepal and ensures that relevant control systems are in place and complied with
  • Take follow up measures on audit findings
  • Support/oversee logistic arrangements for project activities and travel

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance and accounting. Professional qualification like CA/ACCA is an advantage
  • Minimum Three years of working experience in finance and administration with development programmes or other similar organization
  • Experience in handling accounting systems and tools
  • Experience in legal, audit, compliance, budget and resource development
  • Experience in managing multi-donor grants and good knowledge of donor compliance rules and requirements

  • Ability to be resourceful and supportive in setting priorities and streamlining processes and procedures
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking skills so as to conceptualize multiple approaches to solving a problem and drawing out a clear roadmap with roles and responsibilities
  • Excellent cooperation and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with a multi-disciplinary, diverse and dynamic team
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with an ability to engage with a range of stakeholders
  • Excellent command of English and Nepali Language (written and spoken)
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel etc.)
  • Ability to work independently on a range of tasks and to take initiative to take on further responsibilities as appropriate
