Background
VSO has been in Nepal since 1964 and currently implementing its programmes in 25 districts of five Provinces. Currently VSO Nepal programme focuses on Education, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Youth, Livelihoods, Gender & Inclusion, Governance, Climate Change and Resilience. Using our unique Volunteering for Development approach we have brought thousands of people together over the years to generate insights, ideas and, above all, action on poverty and exclusion. Working in 24 countries around the world, our unique role in international development is to place committed volunteers with carefully selected organisations where their skills can have the greatest impact.
Scope of the assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to develop appropriate and triggering content and a video against child/early marriage. According to the study of SEGA – social exclusion and gender analysis conducted in the working districts of ENGAGE project of VSO Nepal (Province 2 and 5), early marriage is the major cause of school dropout among adolescent girls. The working areas school's enrolment statistics shows that more girls than boys are enrolled in the school. However, when they reach grades 5/6, most girls get married and consequently they dropout from school. Patriarchy, unequal power relation, Gender Based Violence including child marriage, and unaware of the value of education, girl's safety, and household chores are the main reasons for school drop-out. The ratio of child and early marriage is being increasing in this COVID period.
- Child/early marriage is a social cause and its everyone's responsibility to stop it for transformational change;
- With aim of providing non-judgmental, context specific, gender sensitive messaging and realistic information on adverse effect of child marriage which will create advocacy, awareness and stop child/early marriage.
- Local culture and practice of child marriage should be demonstrated of Terai and hilly area (mixed of province 2 and 5). A clear concept of video is expected with the proposal showing adverse effects of child marriage and importance of education in girl's life.
- Therefore, VSO Nepal is making an anti-child marriage video with powerful message as awareness raising initiatives that could change people perception on early/child marriage in national and community level.
