We do this by helping low- and middle-income countries develop the ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ infrastructure that people need to connect. This can range from creating ‘hard’ infrastructure such as transport networks that link impoverished farmers to markets or communities to health facilities, through to developing ‘soft’ infrastructure such as the institutions, systems and skills required to deliver public services to the disadvantaged or to support inclusive economic growth.

Position: Environmental Expert

Scope of Work:

  • Assess the technical quality, accuracy and completeness of the EIA reports, their mitigation, and point out incongruities or gaps as per the national and international standards
  • Make recommendations on how/ if the EIA report should be modified to yield more accurate and definitive results for projects
  • Study and analyse the existing environmental acts and regulation and recommend policy changes and work with relevant ministries/ departments in refining EIA process
  • Review the guidance note for disaster risk management plan and emergency preparedness plans
  • Review the gap analysis conducted by the developer and ensure that proper mitigation measures are in place to confirm environment sustainability 
  • Assist in developing environment related plans in extensive consultation with the project affected people 
  • Interpret laws and regulations related to environment and benchmark it versus international best practices
  • Liaise with various organizations to study Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) relevant polices
  • Prepare briefs to communicate achievements of the working group and contribute to knowledge management 

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full time (2 years) Master’s degree in Environment or Environmental engineering or equivalent with interest in infrastructure development
  • At least three years of working experience in business/investment project development within either a private sector corporate body, bank, financial institution, or government development-focused agency/authority
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have been involved in project preparation activities in the infrastructure sector.
  • Proven experience in undertaking research and related publication
  • Proven experience in conducting training and event management
  • IT software proficiency (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) with good report-writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
