Job Description:

IDS Media is seeking a Desk Editor who will man the assignment desk, coordinating coverage and monitoring breaking news as well as create/contribute content to its digital platforms. The ideal candidate is an excellent journalist, a multi-tasker who can communicate, write effectively and handle the deadline pressure of a newsroom. This person should also be a positive, energetic, hard worker. 

Responsibilities:

• Write/edit and publish breaking news, daily news and feature stories for all digital platforms.
• Manage assignment desk, monitor local news/social media.
• Assist news management with content gathering.
• Assist content producers, photographers, digital editors, and reporters with story gathering for all IDS Media platforms.
• Initiate and maintain consistent and thorough communication with regional affiliates and online news counterparts.
• Flag breaking news and feature stories, and pitch story ideas.
• Monitor competitive online, news entities and social media.
• Other duties as required.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Familiar with local newsgathering technology and terminology
• Previous digital writing/editing experience preferred
• Strong news and editorial judgment
• Must be organized and able to multi-task
• Excellent communication skills
• Self-starter, organized, and a good problem-solver, able to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
• Willing to work a variety of shifts including weekends and nights.
