USAID’s Sajedhari - Support to Federalism (STF), is to provide technical assistance to the Government of Nepal (GoN) in transition to federalism with more effective, accountable, responsive and inclusive local governance. One of the key objectives of the STF is to promote inclusive citizen participation in local decision making and public oversight.

SUPERVISOR: Deputy Chief of Party

LOCATION: Kathmandu

ROLE PURPOSE: 

The Communications Specialist will be expected to undertake extensive field travel in the project’s operational area, must likely in Sudurpashchim Province.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute a strategic communication plan for Sajhedari – STF to increase its visibility with the public, GoN, civil society organizations, the private sector and other key or potential stakeholders
  • Oversee project deliverables for reporting, including establishing reporting schedules and drafting reporting templates
  • Review and edit all project research and communications products, ensuring that they are properly edited and tailored to the appropriate audiences
  • Advise on dissemination methods for communications pieces to ensure that information reaches and resonates with the appropriate audiences
  • Explore and develop methods of effectively communicating complex information to make it easily understood by a variety of intended audiences
  • Report on donor-funded events such as workshops, conferences and training
  • Document and develop success stories, videos and other communications assets based on interviews, project activity reports etc. to stimulate project awareness
  • Build the capacity of project and partner staff to collect communications assets to include video, photography and written reports
  • Under the guidance of Home Office Communications, mange project social media accounts, content and presence

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in public relations, communications, public policy, journalism or other relevant field 
  • Minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in communications or public relations
  • Proven success designing and implementing communication strategies
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and a portfolio of quality written products for a variety of formats (e.g., blogs, articles, op-eds)
  • Demonstrated success managing social media platforms to drive messaging with measurable impact on public awareness
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to deeply connect with a range of individuals who have a broad range of backgrounds and expertise
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali, including experience preparing high quality reports and presentations
