USAID’s Strengthening Systems for Better Health (SSBH) Activity is a 6-year project aimed at improving health outcomes in Nepal, particularly for the most marginalized and disadvantaged groups in the country. SSBH supports the Government of Nepal’s efforts to expand access to and use of quality maternal, newborn and child health and family planning services, with a specific focus on newborn care and is designed to achieve three major outcomes:
(i) improving access to and utilization of equitable healthcare services,
(ii) improving the quality of health services at facility and community levels and
(iii) improving health systems governance, within the context of federalism.
The project is implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population at federal level and with provincial and municipal governments, health facilities and other key health sector stakeholders at sub-national levels.

The Activity's field-based staff members are currently conducting comprehensive, consultative Health Systems and Capacity Assessments, covering all 105 municipalities in the Activity’s geographic target area. Given the time, effort and human resources required to complete the assessments – and in particular, to cover all health facilities in each of the municipalities – the Activity has identified the need to deploy temporary consultants to work in collaboration with field staff to complete the assessments across the entire target geography. The Activity intends to recruit and deploy nine (9) clinical consultants and five (5) public health/health systems consultants to undertake this work.
Duration of Assignment: Up to three months (90 days) from date of hire
Locations: Karnali Province (Salyan, Kalikot, Surkhet and Dailekh Districts) and Province 5 (Banke, Bardiya and Dang Districts)
Desired start date: No later than March 15, 2019
We are looking for qualified individuals to work directly with Activity field-based Technical Officers in assigned geographic clusters and, using the tools and process for the Health Systems and Capacity Assessments developed by the Activity, carry out the following tasks:
