Job Description: 

IDS Media is seeking a Business Reporter to join its growing digital newsroom. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, good logistical sense and attention to detail. A strong knowledge across business sectors, and understanding of the banking and stock market, is required. The reporter helps upload content online and ensures that they are published to all digital platforms with accuracy and urgency.  

Responsibilities: 

• Track news events across the country, and incorporate developments into profiles.
• Pitch original story ideas on topics including financial results, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory actions.
• Translate complex financial reports, policy proposals, and legal complaints and convert them to simple logical stories and spin up features.
• Identify, cultivate and interview sources across business sectors.
• Work with graphic designer and layout specialist to update 2-3 profiles per week.

Education: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Finance

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Sound track record of in business reporting; writing succinctly and accurately, and deliver to deadline. 
• Must understand and be able to observe journalistic standards.
• Strong copy-editing skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and research skills.
• Skilled and comfortable on all social media platforms, and constantly thinking of the best ways to reach our audience with your stories.
• Adept at posting quickly to the multiple digital platforms and eager to embrace emerging digital story forms, such as newsletters, that help engage new readers.
