The Assistant Programme Officer will be responsible for managing Clean up Nepal’s action-research project – Mapping Solid Waste Management Systems of Kathmandu. Clean up Nepal with the support of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Private waste management companies in Kathmandu is going to implement its open-data mapping initiative which involves the use and promotion of the open-data technology platform - Nepal Waste Map (a web-based data dashboard and mobile application). The project is going to be implemented in 3 wards of KMC - Ward 3 (Maharajgunj), Ward 5 (Hadigaun), and Ward 32 (Koteshwor). The key responsibilities will include facilitating and coordinating training, mapping, and data collection activities. You will also facilitate the promotion and use of Nepal Waste Map (an open-data website and mobile application) among the government, private and public sector.

Skills & Experience:

  • Completed Bachelors or Masters in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Development Studies or any other field with a passion for environment and development work.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly, persuasively and cohesively in English and Nepali.
  • Excellent training, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop project proposals, reports, and work plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate processes to streamline projects.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with stakeholders which include municipalities, wards, private organizations, and communities.
  • Logical thinking and reasoning capability is essential.
  • Basic knowledge or understanding of GIS, spatial data, open-data initiatives and their technology platforms is highly desirable.
  • Ideate and create content for social media, website and other publications.
  • A positive and independent individual with an ability to inspire and overcome challenges.
  • At least 1-2 years of work experience is preferred.
  • Bike license and own transportation are required.
  • Able to multitask and help the team with other projects such as Green up Nepal and Zero Waste at Schools.
