Position Purpose (Mission):

The Advocacy Advisor is responsible for overall leadership and management of advocacy programmes of SOS Children’s Villages Nepal. S/he shall lead the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of advocacy programmes, and ensures the policy compliances and coordinates the advocacy activities.

Key Performance Areas and Main Responsibilities: 

  • Reviews, evaluates and tactically plans the national advocacy approach to advocate SOS Child-Care Model for meaningful representation across all relevant stakeholders in the country.
  • Represents, promotes and advocates the organisation’s key messages through regional/international networks and ensures coalitions with governmental and like-minded non-governmental organizations to ensure child friendly policies.
  • Identifies crucial child rights issues relevant for the organization and accordingly prepares the advocacy plan in cooperation with National Child Safeguarding Focal Person.
  • Works in close coordination with Head of Programme and other functions for advocacy related deliverables by suggesting solutions and innovative ideas to address advocacy needs.
  • Ensures meaningful representation of SOS Child-Care Model in different professional forums having different thinking or mindset.
  • Keeps national advocacy network live and proactive to address advocacy related topics with sense of urgency.
  • Ensures meaningful representation and cultivate partnership to leverage advocacy opportunities with government bodies, and other implementing partners.
  • Ensures national agreed advocacy plans are timely implemented.
  • Works in capacity building of national advocacy-network.  

Qualification, Experience and Skills: 

  • Master's degree or equivalent degree in political science, international relations, law, public administration, international development or related fields with working experience of five years.
  • Experience on advocacy, child rights at national level, and working on development issues from a policy, research and/or advocacy perspective.
  • Experience in coordination, team play and rapport building with diverse stakeholders such as like-minded organizations and, government bodies at local and national level.
  • Excellent communication skills in English & Nepali and proficiency in computer applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
  • Experience of working with children and young people will be an added advantage.
